It takes a brave and courageous soul to willingly step outside a cool, air-conditioned office in 30-degree heat, but thankfully for us, our co-founder Vishal was up to the challenge - and lived to tell the tale.
More specifically, he recently represented GW Wealth in the St. James's Place Sports Day, taking part in a number of challenges, competition, and friendly rivalry, all in the name of raising money for charity. The events ranged from the classic egg and spoon race, sack race, space hopper race and the aptly named gin & tonic relay.
Vishal was duly elected as team captain, channelling the dark arts of his beloved Arsenal to ensure that the GW Wealth team was competitive on all fronts. Our team improved throughout, ultimately winning the final race and securing points in each of the last 3 events.
While there are rumours suggesting that he was “taking this a little too seriously”, he was eventually reminded that the day was about coming together for a great cause, and we’re delighted to say that, collectively, the event raised an impressive £10,000 for charity.
The St. James's Place Sports Day forms part of wider fundraising efforts across the St. James's Place community. So far this year, as much as £3.4 million has been raised, with 332 charities receiving grants in the first half of the year. The St. James's Place Charitable Foundation is also approaching a significant milestone, with a whopping £150 million raised since its founding.
One of the beneficiaries of the money raised is SELFA, a Yorkshire-based children’s charity and one of the Foundation’s charity partners. SELFA help support over 600 children, young people and their families who are experiencing vulnerabilities each year, helping them build resilience, thrive and achieve through a series of health & wellbeing programmes, targeted holiday activities, peer-support groups and mental health support.
For us here at GW Wealth, the Sports Day was a great opportunity to get involved, spend some time together outside the office and, most importantly, contribute to a worthwhile cause to help charities like SELFA and beyond.
We’re already looking forward to the next fundraising event – though for Vishal’s sake, ideally with a little less running next time.
